ST. LOUIS -- Carlos Silva was diagnosed with tendinitis in his right elbow and will rejoin the team in St. Louis on Tuesday.
But the Cubs have not decided when, or if, to put him back in the rotation.
After a heart scare on Aug. 1 and now the elbow strain, why not just shut Silva down for the final three weeks?
"I haven't talked to the doctors, but if there is any risk... you want to be fair to the player, but you want to be fair to his future, too," general manager Jim Hendry said. "If there's any possibility it's going to be a lingering problem, or we can't get him ready to be stretched out enough, then we won't (pitch him). We won't take any chances, and we won't put him at risk if physically he can't get back and it makes no sense to do it."
